Here are our picks for this week’s surprise performers – both good and bad. If you need to vent (or boast) about one of these players (or a player we missed), please do so in the comments below. YOU DON’T NEED TO BE REGISTERED to join in the discussion!
Philip Rivers (SD) QB – 393 TOTAL YDS / 3 TD
Philip Rivers is having a career season in 2013. He’s making better decisions and holding on to the ball better than ever before (5 of his 10 seasons he’s had 8 or more fumbles). Watching him shred the Chiefs’ defense, it’s like the entire Chargers organization has been drinking some of “Philip’s Powerful Potion” (a la Michael’s Secret Stuff). The only question is, when will the effects wear off – and will Phil singlehandedly beat the Monstars when it does?
Knowshon Moreno (DEN) RB – 230 TOTAL YDS / 1 TD
Sunday’s performance wasn’t a complete shocker considering the season Knowshon Moreno has been having. However, THIRTY-SEVEN carries is unheard of – and 224 yards rushing is nothing to scoff at. We thought it was important to give Moreno his moment in the spotlight, as the “bruised ankle” he sustained might be a little more serious than the Broncos are letting on. Nevertheless, watching the Patriots try to stop Knowshon Moreno in Week 12 was a lot like watching anyone trying to stop Goldberg’s famous knucklepuck – IMPOSSIBLE.
Josh Gordon (CLE) WR – 14 rec / 237 YDS / 1 TD
If you’ve been faithfully placing Josh Gordon in your lineup every week this season, you deserve these weeks of “boom” to counter the “bust.” After joining the Browns in week 3, Josh Gordon’s YPG has fluctuated more than the numbers on Rex Ryan’s bathroom scale. 146 / 71 / 86 / 126 / 21 / 132 / 44 / 125 / 237. While Jordan Cameron’s fantasy value has fallen by the wayside, Josh Gordon is a double-rainbow on the otherwise unsightly landscape known as the Cleveland Browns. Two hundred thirty-seven yards – WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!?
Honorable Mention: Jamaal Charles (KC) RB – 157 YDS / 2 TD, Ryan Fitzpatrick (TEN) QB – 346 TOTAL YDS / 2 TD, Julian Edelman (NE) WR – 149 TOTAL YDS, 2 TD
Victor Cruz (NYG) WR – 27 YDS / 1 Fum Lost
Victor, I think they are yelling “boooo” and not “Cruuuuuz” – but I could be wrong. Nope, that guy over there is definitely not happy. He says he simply needed you to maintain zero points this week in order to win…and then you fumbled the ball. Your team is awful, but YOU dropped that ball. It could be a while before you score again. Now, excuse us while we watch a DOG do a salsa dance…
Andre Johnson (HOU) WR – 36 YDS
“I’ve still got Andre Johnson against JACKSONVILLE…I’ll be fine.”
FACT: Andre Johnson is a beast. FACT: The quarterback situation in Houston is horrible. THIRD AND FINAL FACT: You should be worried. Tuesday morning rolls around and Johnson owners are reacting a lot like the bad guy at the end of Despicable Me did.
Ben Tate (HOU) RB – 1 RUSH YD / 27 TOTAL YDS
Again, the Texans were playing JACKSONVILLE. Ben Tate was projected to have a big day. He rushed SEVEN times for ONE yard. *cue video*
DIS-Honorable Mention: Frank Gore (SF) RB – 34 TOTAL YDS, Wes Welker (DEN) WR – 31 YDS, T.Y. Hilton (IND) WR – 38 YDS
